The Jimi Hendrix signature guitars are part of an “Inspired By Hendrix” series.

On Thursday, the guitar manufacturer Gibson announced a special release for what would be the 78th birthday of the legendary Jimi Hendrix. On November 27, the company will release three versions of two signature guitar models: the 1967 SG Custom in Aged Polaris White, and the 1969 Flying V in Aged Ebony. The former was used in his second-ever television appearance on “The Dick Cavett Show.” He used the latter in his iconic performance at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.

Jimi’s sister Janie expressed her excitement about the forthcoming release.

“I don’t know of a more perfect time than the present for the world to be inspired and electrified by the spirit of Jimi,” she said. “Jimi didn’t play with just his hands, he played his heart and really his soul, using his guitar to create positive energy. He wanted to awaken the world with it. Gibson has harnessed some of that energy, and beautifully!”

The full packages for the guitars includes official photos of Hendrix with the guitars, in addition to a collection of personal photos and stories from his engineer Eddie Kramer. The commemorative guitar cases feature interior linings inspired by the clothes Hendrix wore in the iconic performances. Only 150 total SG Custom guitars will be sold. Getting your hands on one of either models will cost you over $10,000.

“Having the opportunity to release Jimi’s 1969 Gibson Flying V and 1967 Gibson SG Custom is a dream come true,” said Cesar Gueikian of Gibson. “He left this world way too early, but the legacy and influence he left behind is unparalleled.”
