Song Review: MCND – Movin’
Nearly all of MCND’s title tracks follow the same path for me. For the first few days, I’m largely unimpressed and craving choruses that are more melodic and less shouty. Then, I watch the live stages and the guys’ energy brings the song to life. As the weeks wear on, those shouty hooks become total earworms and I find myself obsessed. This year, Crush and Not Over quickly grew into favorites despite an initial review that was less than glowing. I feel like I need to take this into account when approaching new single Movin’ (너에게로…).
I wanted to buck my trend and write effusively about this song. But, I’m afraid MCND could follow the same path yet again! Movin’ is characterized by the same brash energy that’s fueled past titles, but it doesn’t feel quite as fun. There’s a seriousness to the track that keeps me at a distance. If Crush and Not Over were playful smiles and a wink, Movin’ is grit teeth and puffed up chests. I’m fully prepared to be won over, but I think MCND have a steeper hill to climb this time.
On the plus side, Movin’ continues to develop the group’s signature sound. I appreciate their consistency, especially when it comes to delivering thrilling climaxes. The song’s strongest moment arrives right at the end, when everything forges together for a wall of sound. Elsewhere, the track relies heavily on its repeated instrumental riff — and that production doesn’t carry as much groove as Crush did. It’s more leaden than light on its feet. Thankfully, a pounding pre-chorus adds exciting drive. I don’t know… we’ll see how this ages. Watch me be proven wrong yet again!
