Green Day played a surprise set in the subway with/for Jimmy Fallon (watch)

Green Day are scheduled to be in NYC on Thursday for an intimate SiriusXM-presented show at Irving Plaza. Hours later their new album Saviors will be out. The band meanwhile are already in town. They’re not scheduled to appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight (that would be Bush), but it was teased that they’d do something special for Fallon today before word started to spread that it would go down at the 47-50 Rockefeller Center subway station (near where the show tapes). It was in fact a performance on the platform and Jimmy was there, as you can see from social posts by some of those lucky enough to be there, either on purpose or by total chance…

Leaving work and stumbled upon an impromptu #GreenDay concert in the subway one of my coolest rock center moments (it was really them I’m just really short) pic.twitter.com/pNyhT99XsZ

No word yet on what night this will air, but NBC doesn’t seem to have announced a musical guest for Fallon on Wednesday yet.
