Recorded at The Woods studio in Woodstock, New York, ‘Surrender’ sees Benjamin take a deep dive into the realm of not having completely been able to say goodbye, and the lack of closure, and complex feelings that go with it. It’s clear that the point of view of the person in the song is one of unfinished business, and open questions that may never have satisfactory answers.

A blissful blend of Americana and Bluegrass, ‘Surrender’ sees Benjamin’s vocals and guitar supported by bassist Taras Prodanuik, Jim Christie on drums, electric guitar from Doug Pettibone and fiddle from Eamon McLoughlin. Each musician is an absolute legend in their own right, with Prodanuik best known for his work with the likes of Dwight Yoakum, while Doug Pettibone has performed with many well-known artists, including Keith Richards, Norah Jones, Steve Earle, Elvis Costello, Joan Baez, and Mark Knopfler – just to name a few. Jim Christie has also toured with Dwight Yoakum, and Merle Haggard. Nashville-based UK artist Eamon McLouglin pulls it all together with his fiddle, showcasing just why he’s the staff fiddler at the Grand Ole Opry.

‘Surrender’ is just the first taste of what is to come from August Benjamin’s eponymous album, which is set for release on the 13th of November.
