A Day To Remember played The Astro Amphitheatre in Omaha on Wednesday, July 24th as part of their Least Anticipated Album Tour. It was a scorcher of an evening when doors opened at around 5 pm. I couldn’t wait to see A Day To Remember bring the heat on stage.
First up was Scowl. The band is described online as hardcore punk and hails from Santa Cruz, California. They were new to me, and my first impression was one of high energy and a lot of fun. Their music was fast-paced and cathartic, like screaming and dancing around your room as a teen. Their opening song Retail Hell gives a little taste of what Scowl brought to the table Wednesday night.
Next to the stage was the Worcester, Massachusetts-based band Four Year Strong. Near the middle of their set, they played their song “Uncooked”, and people were eating it up. Four Year Strong has a great nostalgic sound, but it feels fresh and new. The heat didn’t stop the crowd from moshing and dancing along. They kept the energy up well and had a lot of fans in the crowd.
Last up before the headliners was The Story So Far. I met so many people in the crowd and in line waiting to see these guys. I definitely met a strong contender for their number-one fan while I was waiting for them to go on. Their set was really solid, and they ended it with their song “Nerve”. The song was a perfect way to finish it off.
A Day To Remember took to the stage with “Sticks and Bricks”, an old favorite to kick things off. They didn’t waste any time with the confetti canons, blasting the crowd during the first song. They shouted out everyone in attendance who grew up listening to heavy music and then went right into their song, “2nd Sucks”. This one is one of my favorites, and it was even better live. As the night went on, concertgoers kept the party going. At some point in the set, members of the crowd began to motion to the band that someone was down. They immediately halted playing and called for help to the area. Security and paramedics were on it in seconds and did an incredible job handling the situation. After maybe 30 minutes, the band was able to take the stage again. Lead vocalist Jeremy McKinnon commended the crowd on how on top of that they were and told us that they had time for a couple more songs. They followed up with “All Signs Point To Lauderdale” and threw rolls of toilet paper into the crowd, which trailed like streamers. They played their hit “If It Means a Lot to You” and everyone had their flashlights in the air and sang along. It was one of my favorite concert moments yet. The band ended the night with the long-anticipated song “The Downfall of Us All”. It was such a great end cap for the night. A Day To Remember is a defining band of my generation, and it’s so easy to see why. They’ll always have a spot at the top of my list of best live acts. As I was leaving the venue, I was wondering when I’ll get to watch them perform again. Absolutely don’t miss out on A Day To Remember this time around.
