The Astro Amphitheater, in La Vista, NE, was host to the 2025 Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms tour with special guest the Spin Doctors opening the show. Sunday, July 6th, the evening sky, at this outdoor venue, came alive with fan favorites, radio hits, covers, and Blues Traveler’s infamous free form jam sessions reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. It was high energy from the first song to the closing number, with the crowd on their feet, dancing and singing along to all their favorites from all three bands.

The Spin Doctors started off the show with the high energy antics of Chris Barron, long time frontman for the band. His dancing, mic swinging, high kicks and all-around enthusiastic performance was just awesome to watch and thoroughly entertaining! I have been a longtime fan, but embarrassed to say, I had never seen them live. I was floored by how great they sounded and how much fun they were live. They played their well-known hits, “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”, “Jimmy Olson Blues” and “Two Princes”, but then surprised fans with their rendition of “Purple Rain: by Prince. Just a fantastic high energy performance.

Next up was the Gin Blossoms. Another powerful performance by Robin Wilson, the band’s iconic singer. Sporting an Iron Maiden T-shirt, he was all rock star, exuding confidence and backing it with strong vocals and a crowd engaging performance. The sound was incredible, almost as if listening to the record.  They played all their hit songs, “Follow You Down”, “Found Out About You”, “Allison Road”, “Hey Jealousy” and “Til I Hear it from You.” It was an amazing show!

Finally, Blues Traveler took the stage and again, I’m embarrassed to say, but I had never seen them either. The most musically impressive performance was John Popper’s mastery of the harmonica. There are harp players and then there is John Popper. He can tear it up on that instrument, if you can imagine a harmonica virtuoso, it’s John Popper. His solos in the songs and during the jams were jaw dropping. Of course, they played their well-known hits such as “Run Around” and “But Anyway” but also had a couple surprises like being joined by Robin Wilson for their rendition of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” by Tom Petty, and the Blues Traveler version of Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher.”

The whole evening was incredibly entertaining, I highly recommend catching this tour if possible!
