Earlier this year, Creed announced that they were reuniting to go out on tour to celebrate the Summer of 1999. Before July, a tour date for the Omaha metro area was not announced. Until a date opened up for their third show in the touring schedule that allowed them to come to Stir Cove at Harrah’s Casino in Council Bluffs, IA. By the week of the show, all tickets were sold out. Luckily, I was allowed to cover this special short-notice concert. It was a great night for live music.

Canada’s own Finger Eleven went on before Creed. These guys have been around, like Creed, since the 90s, so I was impressed they had most of their original lineup intact. They still brought it live. I want to give guitarist Rick Jackett a huge shout-out for his onstage antics and still managing to keep playing the guitar. The guy was a madman in the best way, it was so much fun to watch him. The crowd had a fun time singing along to hits like “One Thing” and “Paralyzer”. It was a solid set from Finger Eleven and I wish them well on the Summer of 1999 tour.

Finally, it was Creed’s return to the Stir Cove stage, the first time since 2012. I’ve seen Scott Stapp, and I’ve seen the instrumentalists of Creed in Alter Bridge live, but never Creed as a whole. They have been getting a reclamation between young millennials and Gen Z people who feel nostalgic for the late 1990s. They even appeared on a Paramount+ Super Bowl commercial this year, so I feel like they are officially back. The production was impressive. They brought pyro and CO2 and lighting and video boards, it was top-notch. The balance they bring with heavy rock and soft melodies is something that, if not done wrong, is hard to balance. Scott Stapp, though he may get a little preachy, sings his ass off like it was 1999 and looked good doing it. Guitarist Mark Tremonti brought the heavy riffs and just continues to be an incredible player. That sold-out crowd sang so loud to every hit. They sounded fresh and flawless as the third show of the tour. I hope this means we will get some new music from them soon. Otherwise, this was a nice trip back to that Y2K era of music with the guys there to create it.
