On Friday, August 1,2025, Creed returned to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the first time in 25 years to perform at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Thousands of people filled the arena to see one of the most pivotal modern rock bands of the last thirty years. You could not ask for a better night for live music than this one.
Mammoth was the opener of the concert. I’ve seen these guys play just up the street at the Bourbon Theatre a couple of times, so when I heard they were going to play Pinnacle Bank Arena, I couldn’t miss it. Wolfgang Van Halen and the gang crushed it. The new songs off their upcoming album sound amazing, as well as their older material. And the crowd was very warm to them, which made me happy. I am now very much looking forward to their upcoming album, The End, coming in October.
Daughtry was the direct support. This was my third time seeing them live. I thought it was more of the same as the last time when I saw them live last year, opening up for Breaking Benjamin. There was nothing bad. Chris Daughtry is an incredible performer, has been doing this professionally since his days on American Idol. I do wish he played more of the older material, but they seem to be having fun playing the new material. The highlight of the set was when he invited his daughter to sing “Waiting for Superman” with him. Having seen his son perform with him last year, I must say he has some talented kids. Overall, had a decent time with Daughtry, but they were still good.
Finally, the Nebraska audience was ready for Creed. It is not often I see a band play a headlining set in back-to-back years, but Creed is an exception. The guys in Creed are exceptional musicians, the best at their respective instruments. Sometimes with these reunions, you would think that the magic isn’t there anymore, and they are doing it for the fortune, but lead singer Scott Stapp is locked in for every performance, bringing his amazing singing voice to the forefront. He does bring a little youth pastor-energy when he talks to the crowd, but that’s who he is. It’s going to be interesting when guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips, and bassist Brian Marshall (who sported a Nebraska Huskers snap back during the encore) return to Alter Bridge next year because they look like they are having fun playing these Creed songs. I’m really hoping they continue to play shows and eventually record an album, but I’m just happy they get along so well now to play these shows for the fans.
