The Vault, in Saginaw, Michigan, was host to GWAR performing on April 4th, 2026. The Vault, which opened in 2020, enjoyed its first sell-out with the unapologetic GWAR. Filling the bill was Soulfly and King Parrot, to make for one hell of a night of live music.
King Parrot, an Australian band specializing in grindcore, ripped through a torrid set of screeching vocals from lead singer Matthew Young. Hard and heavy music mixed with a dash of a disturbing sense of humor; King Parrot set up the tone for the evening.
Soulfly took to the stage and grabbed the audience by the throat as legendary frontman Max Cavalera’s stage presence was undeniable. Soulfly is in a world of their own when it comes to heavy metal as they incorporate tribal beats within their music for an unmistakably unique sound. Even though Max is from Brazil, he’s a known devout diehard Detroit Lions football fan and tonight he mentioned the Lions to the crowd who responded with a roar. Soulfly had the place hoping along to every beat.
As the minutes were passing by waiting for GWAR to take the stage, you could see many fans wearing white t shirts work their way up as close to the stage as they could get. If the rain falling outside all day wasn’t a precursor to what would be happening inside at a GWAR concert, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Since 1984, GWAR has been entertaining audiences with their political and social satire. Often violent, sexual and over the top, people can’t get enough of the giant mythical figures of GWAR. It’s so cool seeing young fans showing up and singing along to the songs with the older fans. GWAR pulls no punches; nobody is off limits to be humiliated and tortured, even leaders of the free world. President Donald Trump had his guts chopped off with a swipe of a sword as blood gushed out of his chest cavity out onto the crowd as band members danced around twirling his entrails.
Former president Bill Clinton even made an appearance playing the sax before getting his head lobbed off. An ICE agent got ripped in half as the band played one of their hit songs, “Have You Seen Me?”. Other songs included, “Tormentor”, “Saddam a Go-Go” and “Metal Metal Land”, “Gor-Gor”, before capping off the night with the biggest dousing of blood during “Sick Of You”.
Simply put, if you missed GWAR, you’ve missed a wonderfully good time. Do yourself a favor, put on a white t shirt and go see GWAR. Life is too short not to get covered in blood, urine and whatever other bodily fluids GWAR hurls at you.
