PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)

HALESTORM – “Back From The Dead”

When you’ve been on hiatus for nearly four months, choosing one song to feature for the long overdue return was a bit daunting. There is so much music to choose from since HRD Radio Report last published at the end of May. However, one song stood above all others, not just for the lyrics that seem apropos, but also because it is a kick-ass, in-your-face, take-no-prisoners type of anthem that harkens back to the glory days of hard rock. All the while, “Back From The Dead” remains as current and relevant as anything else that has come out during this unintended break.

What hasn’t changed since HRD Radio Report last published is the fact that Lzzy Hale remains my favorite female vocalist on the scene today (and is right up there with my all-time favorites). Hale has proven herself time and again since Halestorm burst onto the scene that she is a force to be reckoned with (regardless of gender). “Back From The Dead” has a primal rawness to it that makes you want to turn up the dial to 11 and lose yourself in the moment. Whereas many hard rock bands today will resort to growling and screaming to show intensity and emotion, Hale does it with the same kind of swagger that Sebastian Bach exhibited during Skid Row’s prime. I can think of no better song to bring HRD Radio Report “back from the dead” than this killer tune!
