The Funeral Portrait brought their A Hex On The Nation 2025 tour to the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 23rd, 2025.

Versus Me, a metalcore band from Wisconsin, started the night off.  I was only familiar with one of their songs, “Terrified”.  It got quite a bit of airplay after its release. I was pleasantly surprised with their set. Versus Me had the perfect blend of screams and melodies. They killed their set.  It was apparent they were having fun on stage.  They exuded energy and excitement, with smiles across the board. They gained some new fans, myself included.

If Not For Me out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was the second metalcore “special guest” of the night. Although I hadn’t seen them live, I was familiar with their music. “Feel Me Now” and “Say It To My Face” are currently on heavy rotation across radio. If Not For Me did not disappoint. There’s no question why The Funeral Portrait has them on this tour. They kept the crowd hyped and ready for the headliners.

The Funeral Portrait (TFP) hailing from Atlanta, Georgia took the stage kicking off a high energy, alt-emo-rock experience. The Coffin Crew (what The Funeral Portrait affectionately call its fans) were in full force. Many wearing current TFP merch, quite possibly from the show they played in Lincoln last October, across the street at the 1867 bar. Others wore their most flamboyant black leather accessories and sported brightly colored hair. If you haven’t heard, The Funeral Portrait is currently having a moment. They’ve really blown up with the release of their single “Suffocate City (feat. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills)”.  The Funeral Portrait has had massive success over this past year touring with both Five Finger Death Punch and The HU as well as playing several festivals.

The show was full of theatrics, drama, emotion and energy. All members dressed in black as if they were ready for a funeral, but frontman Lee Jennings stood out with his electric green hair and green eye make-up. Their setlist included a majority of the songs from the album, Greetings from Suffocate City, which is really a compilation of music released over the last several years. The Funeral Portrait is a very inclusive band, they connect with the audience through relatable lyrics and sincerely express gratitude to everyone who shows up to their “devotional ceremonies”.  The Funeral Portrait is just kicking off this tour. It’s an entertaining night, get out and catch a show.  They’re always a good time.

A special thanks to 104.1 The Blaze and the Bourbon Theatre for hosting another night of emerging rock artists.
