Some shows I’ve seen in the past, live rent-free in my mind. They’re memories of some of the greatest performances I’ve ever witnessed. The concert at The Steelhouse on October 23rd, 2025, was one of those shows.
When Kevin Morby took the stage as the evening’s opener, there was an immediate feeling of intimacy. He and his band settled into a warm, stripped‑down groove that instantly grasped those in attendance. The crowd roared when Kevin mentioned his mother and father are from Nebraska. Cochemea Gastelum on saxophone was a real treat, he plays every note like it may be his last. Eric Slick is the drummer and ensures the groove is perfectly maintained throughout each song. It was a short, affectionate and tight set but by the end Morby had won over many who might’ve come just for Lord Huron.
Emerging like silhouettes from an old black and white movie, Lord Huron took the stage to cheers that echoed off the steel rafters. The house was humming with expectancy. The Steelhouse’s stage lighting cast long shadows and warm washes of amber and teal across the immense backdrop, evoking a desert twilight. From the first notes, the band wove cinematic soundscapes around Schneider’s vocals, and the effect was glorious. Lord Huron is compelling live. They don’t just perform songs, they create moments that became less a concert and more a journey. The setlist spanned the band’s decade-long career but leaned heavily on 2025’s The Cosmic Selector Vol 1 as well as fan favorite Strange Trails. Each song was paired with stunning visuals from faded desert roads, telephone booths, and twilight skies melting into black. It was all goose bump inducing and made even more powerful by the subtle lighting and the band’s willingness to let the song breathe. By the time the band closed with “Life is Strange” the audience had been transported somewhere between dream and memory. Lord Huron isn’t just a band that plays music, they craft experiences. With layered visuals, thoughtful storytelling, and atmospheric soundscapes, they don’t perform “to” a crowd, they carry them along for the ride.
