On Friday, April 5th Ameristar Casino hosted Queensrÿche’s solo performance and journey back to their first two albums. The Origins tour treated fans to songs from their EP and first full release, The Warning.

The venue, the Star Pavilion, located in the Ameristar Casino, was a theater-like environment which made for a warm and personal atmosphere, making the fans feel like the band was there just for them.

The show started with the infamous hit, and the song that put them on the map, “Queen of the Reich”. This song still sends chills when I hear it, and the live performance did it justice. The performance of the EP was rounded out with “The Lady Wore Black,” another great song from a fantastic first vinyl.

Guitarist Michael Wilton and bassist Eddie Jackson, the original members of the band, were joined by Mike Stone on guitar, Casey Grillo on drums and the amazing vocals of Todd La Torre. The lineup made for an evening of amazing music and high energy performances, allowing me and the rest of the Star Pavilion to relive the amazing music of Queensrÿche, that made the 80s such a great era.

The evening continued with all the songs from the album The Warning, played in order as they appeared on the record. Starting with “The Warning,” and followed by such great songs as “Deliverance”, “Take hold of the Flame”, and “Before the Storm”. With an amazing light show and lasers, the show progressed to a crescendo of the two encores “Prophecy” and “Screaming in Digital”, from the Rage for Order album.

The night was a trip down memory lane, taking me back to the metal hey days of the 80s. It was a great evening of amazing music and a performance to match. I highly recommend catching this tour and reliving the great tunes of the 80s!
