Saturday, April 15th was a great night for an indoor concert as the winds were wild and chilly outside the Kansas Crossing Casino and Resort. We arrived shortly after doors opened and were greeted with the same warm feeling we always get at the venue but instead of a DJ getting folks pumped up there was an opening act, X Factor1, belting out some righteous tunes that had my heart pumping as I shot a few photos and stood aside for the new fans to enjoy.
Performing their own songs and then surprising me with a metal version of one of my favorite 80s movie song from the Breakfast Club. I would recommend checking them out as they play the style of metal you can understand the words to if you like more than just screaming emotions.
After a short stage reset Texas Hippie Coalition took over with Big Daddy front and center causing the room to explode with a ruckus of happy hippies singing along and dancing to their favorites, if you have ever been to a Texas Hippie Coalition show you’ll understand how strangers and repeat offenders all come together and sway with the gang. After shooting the first couple songs in the pit, I moseyed my way through the crowd saying hello to old friends and new, still capturing some great shots and having a rocking time. Honestly, they are one of the few bands that has such a huge cult following with actual chapters like an MC of its own and no matter what your real world job or life is they all come together as a family at these shows with respect and let the music both speak to and unite folks with major difference. Literally you will find opposing MC’s, LEO’s, right and left wing folks all there to support the music community and let their other worldly concerns disappear for a few hours.
“Backyard barbecues, barroom brawls, tent revivals, and big rock festivals alike are suitable environments for the Red Dirt Metal of TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION, a band with a sound so devilishly electrifying that they had to come up with a new genre to describe it.” Taken from their bio, this is the most accurate description of the band I have followed since first being introduced to them at the Rock station in Joplin, MO by Muttley before they played a local venue that no longer exists. Subsequently, I have covered and hung out with them at many concerts and festivals and love the way they treat their fans as family and are not afraid to sit down and have a meal or a drink with anyone.

Once again, I would like to thank Kansas Crossing casino for hosting another great band and will be covering many shows there this year!
