In honor of Kis-My-Ft2’s complete videography being uploaded to YouTube (in edited form, of course…), I can’t resist writing about each single. To put this in context for Bias List readers, Kis-My-Ft2 (or Kisumai, as they’re often known) are my J-pop version of Infinite. That’s how much I love them and their discography.
Yet, I rarely write about them because finding online links to their music was so hard… until now!
Everybody Go (2011)
Johnny’s Entertainment debuts always put in the effort, as these songs will stick with a group forever and are often performed at special concerts and events. Kis-My-Ft2’s long-awaited debut was postponed because of Japan’s 2011 Tōhoku earthquake. But when it arrived, the group emerged in full glory with this fist-pumping anthem.
In Johnny’s tradition, Kisumai are a roller-skating group – meaning they perform a number of songs on skates. This will seem like an odd novelty to many western audiences, but it’s part of a long history within the agency.
Everybody Go is pure, unadulterated cheese and I love every second of it. The song reminds me of the cartoon soundtracks I grew up on during the 80’s – Transformers and such. Its sound and melody appeal to that inner child, especially the punchy chorus. And when the track breaks for a symphonic interlude before its climax, you know that “subtle” is not going to be in Kisumai’s vocabulary.
