On Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, at Treefort Music Hall, Rise Against screamed and rocked the stage with Speed of Light and then Destroy Boys opening for them.
Speed of Light is a family metal band with Mia Montalvo (vocals) Tyler Montalvo (guitar) Riley Montalvo (bass) and Nico Montalvo (drums). This band also started young and built a following early on. Seeing the power they have on stage lets you know, soon they will be opening their own shows. Think of a heavy metal backbone with thrash energy. Trust me, you won’t fall asleep during their show!
The band Destroy Boys originated in Sacramento, California around 2015. The main three members are Alexia Roditis (vocals/guitar) Violet Mayugba (guitar/vocals) and Narsai Malik (drums). They started when they were teenagers. Seeing them live you would guess they were older since they had a 80’s punk energy to them. They have even joked their vibe is like “Blondie crashing a Misfits recording session.” They also have that garage punk sound that makes you want to dance the night away! I appreciated that being queer myself, they wanted to make a point they care about the LGBTQ+ community and to show compassion especially to the trans community.
Rise Against took to the stage with high energy chords and vocals that had me and everyone else screaming with our whole chests! Their song “Savior” is my favorite and too catchy to be ignored by anyone. You have to jump around and throw your fist up! Man they know how to harmonize. They came out of the late 90’s punk/ hardcore scene but have also intertwined with melodic hardcore, punk rock and alternative rock. Current members include Tim Mcllrath (lead vocals) Joe Principe (bass/ backing vocals) Zach Blair (lead guitar/ backing vocals) and Brandon Barnes (drums/ percussion). Check out other popular songs like “Swing Life Away”, “Hero of War”, “Re-Education” and you’ll be hooked! Their songs are more than just songs, each one tells a completely different story that draws you in. You would probably be surprised by how many songs you recognize from streaming playlists or even the radio. This was my first time seeing them and I already look forward to their next show. If they aren’t playing near you on this tour, check out their new album, Ricochet, and put it on repeat! You won’t be disappointed!
