BXB recently offered their own take on Turbo’s 90’s classic The Black Cat Nero, a song that was also covered by ATEEZ a few years back. While it’s always nice to hear rookies honor legends of years past, the cover was an odd teaser for BXB’s newest project.
Airplane sees the group taking a different route than most of their peers. Rather than deliver an upbeat banger, they’ve gone for a rousing mid-tempo with a gospel twist. The clap-along rhythm and hints of organ give Airplane a big sound that could be quite impressive with the right melodies behind it. Unfortunately, the song borrows some of its worst instincts from the wider K-pop world — namely, the shout-sing-talk that dominates the chorus. Without its notable production elements, this would be just another dull entry into the industry’s boy group oeuvre.
