I don’t always cover new Jay Park music on the blog, but Candy offers the kind of funk-pop sound I tend to be interested in. It also pairs him with vocalist Zion.T — a name we don’t hear all that often anymore. They make a powerful duo, even if Candy sets its ambitions relatively low.

The song’s breezy groove is well-suited to summer, with a catchy chorus repeated often. It meets expectations, but never goes beyond them. I wish the beat went harder. It feels washed out and muted when it could have attacked with the force of a So Good. Luckily, Jay Park and Zion.T’s smooth, confident vocals give Candy flavor of its own.
