Spencer Zahn has announced the first volume of what will ultimately become a double album. Statues I, an album of solo piano works, is out August 11 via Cascine, and it’s led by the video for the new song “Two Cranes.” Statues II—described as experimental jazz, R&B and ambient music—will follow in the fall; the two volumes will be combined into a single gatefold vinyl release. Zahn explained the thought process in approaching this album: “When composing solo, I always ask myself, ‘Would I want to listen to this? Does it move me? Does the emotion come through?’” Check out the new song below.
Zahn collaborated with Dawn Richard on the late 2022 album Pigments. Earlier this year, he teamed with Dave Harrington and Jeremy Gustin for a full album cover of Harry Styles’ Harry’s House.
