On Saturday, December 13, Steel Panther made their return to the Omaha area, as they played the Whiskey Roadhouse inside the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The Violent Hour from Los Angeles, CA were the openers. This is Carla Harvey (ex-Butcher Babies vocalist) and her husband, Charlie Benante (drummer of Anthrax)’s creative endeavor. Going from the studio where Charlie played all the instruments, with some help from Zakk Wylde and John 5 recorded guitar solos, this became a full-on all-female hard rock band. This is their first tour and they sounded like they’ve been doing it together for a couple of years. They even did a cover of “Nice Boys” by Rose Tattoo, subbing out boys for girls. I’m so glad Carla gets to have this creative freedom for herself and really showcases her singing ability. I’m really curious if this touring band will continue to help with the writing and recording of future material because they were solid.

Steel Panther was ready to take the stage. They’re used to playing casinos, having had a residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, so this kinda felt like home to them. This was my second time seeing the guys, and they love to entertain the crowd, so much so that I kinda wish they played more songs. But they know how to perform and do well at what they do. Many women were on the stage during this performance, apropos to the lyrics Michael Starr sings. I think this tour was a perfect excuse for them to perform their Christmas song, “The Stocking Song”. They came out for their encore and played one of their most popular songs, “Gloryhole”. If you miss the 1980s hair metal scene, but want something that isn’t cover songs from that era, Steel Panther is your best bet.
