Sunday, July 20, 2025, marked the return of Weezer to the Omaha metro area. It had been 2018 since their last time, and this was their third time playing Harrah’s Council Bluffs’ Stir Cove. Luckily, the sun started to come down, and the weather wasn’t as hot as it was. There were so many people at Stir for this sold-out show.

Weezer has been dominating the modern rock scene for over thirty years. It is no surprise that their fans still turn up in droves to see them perform. All four members of Weezer are incredible musicians. I was incredibly impressed with Brian Bell’s ability to switch from guitar to keyboard to harmonica at one point during the set. Rivers Cuomo doesn’t get the recognition as an amazing guitar player. All the unique effects he uses for his guitar sound add a distinctiveness to his playing. He also had fun with the crowd, doing this goofy wave to say hello to them throughout the set. A standout moment during the concert was when, during the intro for “Undone – The Sweater Song”, Brian Bell was name-dropping Omaha references like the Reuben sandwich, Steelhouse, and Dodge Street. He even asked Rivers who the host of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom was, a show they were obsessed with when they were kids (Marlin Perkins). It was very fun to hear those name-drop. They played hit songs like “Beverly Hills” and “Pork and Beans.” It was a very all-ages crowd, parents bringing their kids, so it was fun seeing the older fans recognize the older songs in their catalogue and the younger ones with the radio hits. They ended their set with an encore, playing both popular favorites “Say It Ain’t So” and “Buddy Holly”. Weezer was and will always be a perfect fit for the Stir Cove stage. I hope we get to hear some new music from them soon.
