Hot Water Music already announced that they’ll be celebrating their 30th anniversary on tour this year, and now they also announced a new album, Vows, due May 10 via Equal Vision (pre-order). It was made with longtime producer Brian McTernan (who also worked on their early 2000s classics Caution and The New What Next), and it’s also a genuinely star-studded album, with guest appearances from Turnstile’s Brendan Yates & Daniel Fang, Thrice, The Interrupters, Popeye of Farside, and Dallas Green of Alexisonfire and City and Colour. Hearing the lifers in Hot Water Music collaborate with a cast like that one is a very exciting prospect, and though you’ll have to wait to hear any of the songs with guests, two songs from the album are out now, the Chuck Ragan-sung “Menace” and the Chris Wollard-sung “Burn Forever.”

“In this day and age, it’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day frustrations,” Chuck Ragan says about “Menace.” “What isn’t easy all the time is recognizing our ability to choose our mental state. We own the power to slow down enough to be present in our anger, realizing the paths away from hatred and preparing ourselves for the next time we cross ways with menace.” Chris Wollard adds that “‘Burn Forever’ is about processing grief. Allowing it to happen, and also about the things we learn to help us through it.” Both songs are classic Hot Water Music, gritty punk anthems in the way that only this band can do. Check them out below.

“The theme that kept coming up while working on this record was growth — how writing a song, recording an album, or being in a band is like planting a seed and helping it grow,” the band adds. “We think a lot of that had to do with looking back and realizing that over 30 years, we’ve managed to make something special that we all really love. […] We hope this album feels like a celebration of our history and future to everyone that hears it. That is definitely what it is and how it feels to us.”
