In honor of Kis-My-Ft2’s complete videography being uploaded to YouTube (in edited form, of course…), I can’t resist writing about each single. To put this in context for Bias List readers, Kis-My-Ft2 (or Kisumai, as they’re often known) are my J-pop version of Infinite. That’s how much I love them and their discography.

Yet, I rarely write about them because finding online links to their music was so hard… until now!

Luv Bias (2021)

When Luv Bias first came out at the beginning of 2021, I was disappointed that it was a slower track. I hate to see groups lose their sense of excitement as they age, and Kisumai is overdue for another bombastic dance-rock single. But, Luv Bias went on to become a big favorite as the year went on. That’s what ubiquity will do! I heard it in the drama it soundtracked, in the credits of the group’s variety and in many live performances.

This is also the power of a great melody. To me, melody is the most enduring of pop elements. It’s what gives a song longevity. Luv Bias’s robust chorus is oh-so-satisfying, both in its fullness and the interplay of its melodic lines. This song has a centerpiece, and even if the verses are great on their own, you can’t help but wait for that chorus to come back again. This is a ballad-with-a-beat, bolstering its sentimentality with rhythm and drive.

The music video is quite a CG-fest, filmed pretty much entirely on green screen. For whatever reason, the YouTube upload doesn’t exist so I’m posting a “drama” version (ie: clips from the Oh My Boss drama this is an OST for) and a great live performance with synchronized fountains. I love the theatricality of it!
